Anne Sullivan Elementary Orchestras
Anne Sullivan Elementary is home to our beginning and intermediate orchestra students. Beginning orchestra is offered to 4th grade students. Our primary objectives are to learn about the instruments and how to play them, enhance note reading and rhythm skills, and develop good tone on our instruments. After learning the basics, our 5th grade Intermediate orchestra students begin to learn more complex skills with their instrument. This includes learning more notes, rhythms, and terminology as well as advanced bow and finger technique. Our repertoire starts to become more diverse and students learn independent parts for each piece. |
MacArthur Middle School Orchestras
There are two orchestra ensembles at MacArthur for students to participate in. Our 6th grade group, Philharmonic Orchestra, is an ensemble for 3rd year string players. Students in 6th grade work toward improving and expanding their music abilities on their instruments as well as honing their ensemble skills. Our other ensemble, Concert Orchestra, is a mix of both 7th and 8th grade students. Students in concert orchestra perform repertoire that challenges and pushes their musical understanding and performance abilities to the limit. The MacArthur Concert Orchestra also performs as special assemblies and events throughout the year. |
Serenading Strings
This elite chamber orchestra performs at many school and community functions throughout the school year. Serenading Strings plays all sorts of "pop" music ranging from the greatest hits in 1719 to the greatest hits in 2019. Students must audition for a spot in this group at the beginning of the year. In past years, we have performed at the Veteran's Day Breakfast, Holiday parties for the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and Rotary Club and at the Prospect Heights Library for the Youth Art Show Reception. Students must learn anywhere between 20 and 30 pieces of music for each event. If you have any suggestions for performance venues, feel free to contact me! [email protected] |
